Tom is a Muscle physiologist with a research interest in strength training and older people. Tom is an Associate Professor in the Physical Activity and Public Health research group at the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre in Sheffield and is the research for the “Strength 4 Life programme” which co-ordinates Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists alongside strength and conditioning coaches and exercise scientists to enable older adults to safely undertake strength training.
Tom’s expertise lies in measurement of neuromuscular function and in the imaging of muscle and bone through ultrasound, MRI, DXA and pQCT to quantify changes in these tissues in response to strength training, ageing, deconditioning, surgery and pharmaceutical/nutrition interventions.
